Go Auto High School Team of the Week

Does your high school football team have what it takes to be THE team of the week? Each week, B97 picks a team that's on a roll, had a huge game, shown the most spirit or stands out from the pack.  Thanks to Go Auto - The Mortuary - PJ's Coffee

Landry-Walker started the season 0-3. The Charging Bucs were struggling mightily, but we shouldn't have doubted the defending state champions.  Since then, they've won seven consecutive games, culminating with a district deciding triumph over Chalmette. That's right, Landry-Walker is rolling once again heading into the playoffs. Could we see them in the Superdome again in December? We'll find out. One thing is for certain - nobody is going to want to play this red-hot program in the post season. The Landry-Walker Charging Bucs are this week's B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

Don't look now but 'Da Parish' is home to one of the best teams in the New Orleans area!  The Chalmette Owls have reeled off four straight wins by a combined score of 165-26.   They are now 7-2 on the season and have snuck their way into the top 15 of the 5A power point rankings.   Now, they'll play for a district title at home against defending state champion Landry-Walker, next week in Chalmette.  It would be one of the more surprising district titles in recent memory, but don't tell the Owls.  They've been underdogs all season and have proved their doubters wrong time and time again. The Chalmette Owls are our B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

Just because it’s expected, doesn’t mean it’s easy!  The John Curtis Patriots have jetted out to a 6-1 record, with their only loss to an out of state team.  However, it’s their Catholic League dominance that is really impressive.  Curtis has put up 87 points the past two weeks against Jesuit and St. Augustine, and is now 3-0 in district play.  The Patriots have gone four straight years without a state title, an eternity for their program.  This year, they are heavy favorites to grab one of the top two seeds in the playoffs and steamroll their way back to the Superdome, with a possible rematch against Evangel looming.  This week the John Curtis Patriots are the B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

Holy Cross has faced rough headwinds the past few years as they try to rebuild their program in the always-tough Catholic League.  Perhaps last Friday night was a turning point.  The Tigers mauled rival Jesuit 31 to 17 in front of a massive crowd of 10,000 plus fans at Tad Gormely Stadium, in a game that wasn't even as close as the scoreboard might indicate.  The Holy Cross Tigers, at least for one week, are the headliners of the New Orleans Catholic League and the B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

This week we honor a fearsome beast on the Northshore, one who has been mauling their opponents the first four weeks of the season. The Lions of Covington are 4-0 with their most impressive victory coming last week, a 47-13 blowout of district rival Ponchatoula.  We may be seeing Covington play in the Superdome come December. And certainly at this moment, they are the B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

The Warren Easton Eagles have flown to 3-0 this season including last Friday's (9/15) come from behind victory against defending state champion Landry-Walker.  The Eagles used a stifling defense to hold the Charging Bucs scoreless over the final three quarters and win in a hostile environment at Behrman Stadium on the west bank.   The Eagles have now defeated two Catholic League teams in Jesuit and Brother Martin, along with Landry-Walker to improve to a surprising 3-0.  Oh, and they defeated a third Catholic League team, St. Augustine, in a preseason jamboree.  Warren Easton is for real folks, and a legitimate contender to get to the Superdome this season. The Eagles have a bye to get ready for their toughest test of the season next week against John Curtis, but right now, the Warren Easton Eagles are the B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

We should have seen them coming.  The De La Salle Cavaliers have been knocking on the door of greatness the past few seasons, most notably during an undefeated regular season campaign last year.  This year's team might be De La Salle's best ever.  The Cavaliers thumped traditional Catholic League power St. Augustine 38-12 last weekend, sending notice to everybody in Division II that they may be the team to beat.   They get another chance to knock off a traditional power this week when they take on the Edna Karr Cougars at Tad Gormely Stadium on Friday night. As for now, The De La Salle Cavaliers are the B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!

It was a team on the Northshore making a statement in week 1, just not the team we expected.  The Lakeshore Titans of Mandeville defeated rival Fountainebleau 49-10, opening eyes around the district.  The night was made even more special by a fundraiser by Lakeshore for assistant coach Greg Battistella, who is recovering from a stroke he suffered during the team's jamboree last week.  Lakeshore is #Battstrong and our B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week!
