Go Auto High School Team of the Week

Does your high school football team have what it takes to be THE team of the week? Each week, B97 picks a team that's on a roll, had a huge game, shown the most spirit or stands out from the pack.

WEEK 10 - Newman
This week’s B97 Go Auto High School Team of the Week is the Isidore Newman Greenies … not just for their opening round Division 3 play-off win over North Lake Christian … but for their body of work throught-out the season.  Newman boasts a who’s who of graduates that include the Manning brothers and Odell Bekham, Jr.… but this latter-day group of upstarts has rewritten the Greenies offensive record book.  QB Martin Butcher broke Payton Manning’s school record with his 45th TD pass last week.  Wide receiver Jarmone Southerland holds the school’s single season record with 21 TD receptions. And, finally, senior wide receiver Murray Calhoun continues to rewrite records with 164 receptions, over 2,700 yards receiving and 35 TD’s.

WEEK 4 - Metairie Park Country Day
Year-to-date our B97 Go Auto High School Teams of the Week have emerged from the ranks of the 4A and 5A metro schools … big schools with big enrollments.  This week’s team comes from Class 2A. Metairie Park Country Day has zoomed to the top of the state’s 2A polls be virtue of its 5 and 0 unblemished record.  In the season’s opener the Cajuns beat then number one ranked Amite … and has built  upon their resume with victories over 5A Bonnabel … 3A St. Charles Catholic … and last week 3A Madison by a 63 – 8 score.  Led by quarterback Justin Ibieta, Metairie Park Country Day simply knows how to win.  But their biggest challenge to date comes in their next game on Friday 10/5 against the also undefeated 2A Isadore Newman Greenies.  It may just be the best game in the state!
